West End Bay

West End Bay is Anguilla's quietest and most naturally complete western beach - a soft-sanded, southwest-facing stretch of coastline in West End Village, bordered by the West End Pond on its inland side and the open Caribbean on the other. The area is authentically local: West End Village's quaint buildings and gentle pace set the tone, and the beach is almost always uncrowded.

The bay is also the gateway to the island's western frontier. The road to the Arch, Sherricks Bay, and Bolly Ham Bay all begin from here, making West End Bay as much a launching point as a destination - perfect for visitors who want both a quiet swim and the adventure of the western tip on the same excursion.

The West End Pond - a shallow wetland bordering the beach - is one of the more rewarding and accessible birdwatching spots on Anguilla's west coast. Herons, egrets, and wading birds are present year-round, with activity highest in the early morning and at dusk.

The pond is visible from the road and the beach edge, and even casual visitors frequently spot birds without any special effort. For birdwatchers, combining the West End Pond with the Cove Pond nearby makes for an excellent morning coastal wetland circuit.

West End Bay's calm, southwest-facing waters are good for swimming on most days, with a sandy bottom and gradual entry. Snorkeling along the rocky edges of the bay reveals fish, corals, and marine life in clear water. Blowing Rock - the offshore volcanic formation at the western end of the Shoal Bay West area - is also accessible for snorkeling from this stretch of coast.

The same road that brings you to the beach continues west as a dirt track to the Arch (a natural limestone arch accessible on foot), Sherricks Bay, and the dramatic Bolly Ham Bay at the far western tip where the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean meet. A 4WD is recommended for the full western tip route.

West End Bay faces southwest and catches warm late-afternoon light over St. Martin and the open Caribbean. The sunset here is quiet and private - none of the resort-front atmosphere of Meads Bay or Maundays Bay, just the water, the birds on the pond, and the light changing over the channel.

The beach is accessed via West End Road from West End Village, approximately 1.5 km west of the Four Seasons. Free roadside parking is available. West End Bay Holiday Apartments and West End Bay Condos both offer accommodation in the area.
